So what is this talk about an alleged “Old Covenant Age or World” ending in AD 70 and the presence of Christ returning in AD 70 in a mystical way?
This is cult language out from a cult named Covenant Eschatology.
A Campbellite churches of Christ minister by the name of Max King came up with this insidious cult doctrine with the help of his father in law Claude Beagle in the 1960s.
Max King’s first book pushing this cult doctrine was published in 1971.
Max was then able to round up and convince some other Campbellite churches of Christ ministers that he had the truth.
We are literally watching a real deal cult form before our eyes – ever since 1971 – and now growing throughout the world.
Max King’s three main disciples are Ed Stevens, William Bell, and Don Preston – all who took Max King’s heretical cult doctrine to the streets – and all who were also Campbellite churches of Christ ministers like Max King.
Max King’s core cult doctrine is his heretical idea that there was an “Old Covenant Age, World, Order, System, Kingdom, Creation, Administration, etc.” that went from Adam to AD 70.
This is impossible because THE ONE AND ONLY Old Covenant – Israel’s Mosaic Covenant – began in ca. 1500 BC with Moses at Mount Sinai – but these cult members will still insist “the Old Covenant” goes all the way back to Adam.
Getting back to… Max King’s core cult doctrine is his heretical idea that there was an “Old Covenant Age, World, Order, System, Kingdom, Creation, Administration, etc.” that went from Adam to AD 70.
Max proposed that there was “a group of Old Covenant Age and World people” that Max called a “body” who were waiting to enter into “the New Covenant Age and World” that Christ was going to bring in due time.
This “body” of people were going “resurrect into” the “New Covenant Age” over a “40 year covenant change process” and “40 year Atonement process” between the cross and AD 70.
This is Max King’s idea that there is a “corporate body view” of “the body of the Resurrection” – meaning that “the body” that “was raised in a 40 year process and also an event in AD 70 at the Resurrection” was a “corporate body” – or a “group of Old Covenant Age and World people” waiting “to be raised into” and “to enter into” the “New Covenant Age and World”.
Yowza! That’s some crazy stuff!
AD 70 is when Max King said that the “Parousia” or “Presence” of Christ fully showed up mystically to inhabit the mystical city of “New Jerusalem” that Max said “came down from God out of Heaven in AD 70” according to Revelation 21.
So this “body of Old Covenant Age and World people” who were all waiting to get “raised into” an alleged mystical “New Covenant Age and World” did get “raised into” the “New Age” in AD 70 when “Christ returned, appeared, and arrived in his presence in AD 70” when the Roman armies destroyed Jerusalem – which this cult says is THE SIGN OF THE MYSTICAL COMING OF CHRIST.
They accept by faith that Christ mystically came to mystically inhabit a mystical city that they say is here right now because of this SIGN.
Now… If this is starting to sound a lot like Occult New Age Religion, Mysticism, Esotericism, Gnosticism, Transcendence, Ascension, etc., THAT’S BECAUSE IT IS!
Max King became a Universalist because he came to see that EVERYBODY in an alleged “Adamic Old Covenant Age and World” that was in a “body” of people that needed to be “resurrected” as a “corporate body” ALL BENEFITTED from this alleged “change of an Old Covenant Age and World to becoming a New Covenant Age and World in AD 70”.
Max King came to see that EVERYBODY in an alleged “Old Covenant Age and World” ENTERED INTO an alleged “New Covenant Age and World” in AD 70 where “death was completely destroyed” and where “immortality, incorruption, perfection, and glory takes place”.
This is NEW AGE RELIGION on steroids!
But here’s the catch… The cult members today in Covenant Eschatology don’t want to be Universalists like their founder – and they now say that you need to “enter into this New Jerusalem that is presently here” by faith – by accepting their cult doctrine.
And once you enter into this mystical city (by faith in their doctrine) that they say came in AD 70 (just like their founder Max King came up with), you will THEN be “in the presence of the Christ that returned in AD 70 to inhabit this city that came down from God out of Heaven in AD 70”.
They teach that RIGHT NOW INSIDE THIS MYSTICAL CITY THAT THEY HAVE ENTERED INTO BY FAITH is “immortality, incorruption, perfection and glory” – that they say they are enjoying right now.
And they say they are in the fullness of “the presence of the Christ that returned in AD 70” inside this mystical city they entered into by faith.
The top teacher in this cult Don Preston does not even believe in or teach the baptism of the Holy Spirit the way that the disciples of Jesus were baptized with the Holy Spirit in the first century!
Covenant Eschatology is Max King’s version of Full Preterism – where an “Old Covenant Age and World of spiritual death” allegedly formally ended in AD 70 – and a “New Covenant Age and World of spiritual life” allegedly formally began in AD 70.
In this cult, it’s obvious that they have a transcendence and ascension belief – where you can RIGHT NOW mentally and spiritually ascend and transcend INTO THIS alleged mystical city that is allegedly here right now all around us – ever since AD 70 – but some have not entered into this mystical city by faith – and the goal is get them into the city by preaching and teaching this insidious AD 70 cult doctrine!
“The Christ has come! Get into his Presence that is here right now! Get into the Mystical City that came down out of Heaven in AD 70! You can have immortality, incorruption, perfection, and glory RIGHT NOW! Name it and claim it!”
If you know what Gnosticism is, it’s very obvious that this is a form of Gnosticism – where one’s biological physical flesh body has nothing to do with “entering into a place of immortality, incorruption, perfection, and glory” – because these cult members say that THEY HAVE ALREADY ENTERED INTO A MYSTICAL CITY WHERE IMMORTALITY, INCORRUPTION, PERFECTION, AND GLORY IS FULLY PRESENT!
The top teacher in this cult Don Preston says that the meaning of “in the flesh” is “to be in the realm, location, and sphere of the Old Covenant World and Age”!
WHAT?! Well then who can be “in the flesh” if this is how this cult defines “in the flesh”?!
These false cult teachers have no concept of the flesh being the personal sinful nature – the personal old man that is progressively put off while the personal new man is progressively put on.
They use their “old flesh man” and “new spirit man” on their “corporate body” – their group of “Old Covenant Age and World people” – that they insist needed to be “raised out of the Old Covenant Age and World” into the “New Covenant Age and World”.
Here’s the bottom line…
There is no such thing in the Bible as an “Old Covenant Age, World, Order, Kingdom, System, Creation, Administration, etc.”
It’s simply not there – this is blatant cult language out from Max King who founded this cult in 1971 and of course, others have expanded on it by now and added different things.
This cult has now obviously grown outside of the Campbellite churches of Christ movement (cult), and there are various offshoots like Covenant Creation and Israel Only.
If you don’t know how cults use cult language to deceive their followers, you can get caught up in a cult like this – where they use the cult term “Old Covenant Age” or “Old Covenant World” or “Old Covenant Creation”.
Once you chomp down on the bait and you accept THIS cult term, there’s A LOT MORE cult doctrine and terminology that they’re waiting to teach you!
