Max Kingism, Covenant Eschatology, and Gary DeMar

On Joel Richardson’s Facebook page, I added the following few comments on one of his posts (below). Joel recently made a video with Gary DeMar, and in the video Gary was dancing, dodging, and deflecting when pressed on certain issues that he obviously didn’t want to answer. This past weekend, Gary DeMar was a speaker at a small Covenant Eschatology/Creation Full Preterism cult conference. Gary came out of the proverbial closet concerning him being a Covenant Eschatology Full Preterist. He most certainly is keeping his intimate fellowship company with the snakes and devils in this cult. Here’s my comments (grouped together here) that I made on Joel Richardson’s page – further exposing Gary DeMar and the other false teachers in “Max Kingism”…

Gary DeMar was just at a Covenant Eschatology/Creation Full Preterism cult conference this weekend as a speaker – where he proudly said that the second coming of Christ took place in the first century. By the way, Gary spoke at this same conference in the past. The pastor of the brick and mortar church is David Curtis. David has some SUPER FAR OUT BELIEFS besides Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism.

Gary is obviously keeping his intimate fellowship company with these guys. He’s done many videos with them. Gary just co-wrote a book with a very loud and proud Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism cult adherent by the name of Robert Cruickshank. He released this book within the past month. Gary has definitely come out of the Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism cult closet.

I’ve been studying “Max Kingism” (“Covenant Eschatology”) for 25 years. Max King – who was a very charismatic Campbellite churches of Christ minister – devised Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism throughout the 1960’s in conjunction with his father-in-law mentor, Claude Beagle. Max wrote his first book with this cult doctrine included in it in 1971 called “The Spirit of Prophecy” (which title has cult connotations big time). Max wrote what’s essentially a systematic theology book on Covenant Eschatology in 1987 called “The Cross and the The Parousia of Christ”.

Max King had three Campbellite churches of Christ guys come alongside him in adopting his cult definitions and rhetoric in his Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism. Ed Stevens joined rank with Max around 1975. William Bell joined rank with Max around 1980. And Don Preston joined rank with Max around 1990. These four guys are responsible for Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism being what it is today. All four guys started 501c3 religious businesses on the platform and framework of Max King’s Covenant Eschatology. Ed Stevens, William Bell, and Don Preston still have their religious businesses.

The same framework and system that Max King came up with is what’s being used today. Some of the main players today are Don Preston, William Bell, Ed Stevens, Gary DeMar, David Curtis, Mike Sullivan, Zach Davis, Robert Cruickshank, Michael Miano, Holger Neubauer, Tim Martin, Jeff Vaughn, Ward Fenley, Larry Siegle, Jack Scott (both Larry and Jack where part of the “original crew”), Rick Welch, Travis Drum, Joel Rosenauer, Allyn Morton, Steve Magua, Alex Polyak, and Kristin Bingamon (Heretic Chick Chat).

There was a lot of very weird heresy being introduced (Covenant Creation, Satan was Jewish leadership and not a genuine character, etc.), infighting, and inaction from about 2000 to 2020, but then things changed with Covid-19. Some younger faces started showing up (Zach Davis, Rick Welch, Travis Drum), and a “spirit of unity” came over the cult movement. There was new vigor and momentum introduced around 2021-2022. Gary DeMar has obviously joined rank with this cult movement. I’m personally sure that Gary is looking to put his own stamp on Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism. And I’m sure the motley crew that makes up this cult is super happy to have a guy like Gary DeMar on board – seemingly giving credence, credibility, authority, and leverage to “Max Kingism”. Within the cult movement there are many different “flavors” and expressions, but they have all come together within the past few years for self-preservation purposes it seems. It’s the old motto, “United we stand, divided we fall.”

They all still insist on Max King’s original cult doctrine being truth – which is the teaching that an alleged “Old Covenantal Age, World, Order, System, Kingdom, Era, and Creation” came to an end in AD 70 at how they define “the Parousia of Christ” – and they teach that an alleged “New Covenantal Age, World, Order, System, Kingdom, Era, and Creation” began at the cross and was consummated in AD 70 at the “end of the Old Age” at “the Parousia of Christ”. Max King prided himself on coming up with this alleged “40 year covenant change process between the cross and AD 70” – where he says that a “group of Old Covenant Age people” went from “being in the Old Covenant Age to being in the New Covenant Age”. They had a “covenantal status change” they say. This “Old Covenant Age, World, Order, Creation” is what they say is “the Old Heaven and Earth” that ended in AD 70 at “the Parousia of Christ”. And they say that the “New Covenant Age, World, Order, Creation” is the “New Heaven and Earth” that was consummated (that officially began like a marriage consummation) in AD 70 at “the Parousia of Christ”.

The huge thing is… There is no such thing as an “Old Covenant Age, World, Order, Creation” in the Bible anywhere to be found – yet Max King built his whole cult doctrine on this alleged “Old Covenant Age ending in AD 70”! And it’s worth noting that these guys have a heretical “40 year Atonement process” between the cross and AD 70! They say the Old Covenant Law needed to continue until AD 70 (hence an alleged “Old Covenant Age”) and when “the Old Covenant Law ended in AD 70”, they say that it could no longer condemn those who were in the “Old Covenant Age” because the “New Covenant Age” began in AD 70. These people allegedly went from “being in the Age of Adam and the Condemnation of the Law” to “being set free into the Age of Christ”. This is essentially how they define the Resurrection! They say this “Old Covenant Age corporate group of People” were symbolically “corporately raised” out of “the metaphoric grave of Old Covenant Age Spiritual Death”!

Yes! This is just another form of Occult New Age Religion when you boil it down! And they can even boast and say “THE NEW AGE officially began in AD 70!” It’s all just mind mental ascension stuff – transcend and ascend through special esoteric wisdom that these guys say they’ve been given. They define Adamic death as being an EXCLUSIVE SPIRITUAL-ONLY DEATH that they say does not involve the biological physical flesh body at all. They make themselves to be a form of Gnosticism in this manner! Adamic death to them is outside of – and not having anything to do with – one’s biological physical flesh body. They actually teach that “spiritual life” and how they define immortality, incorruption, perfection, and glory HAS COME in the first century at how they define the “Parousia of Christ”. They claim that they have this immortality, incorruption, perfection, and glory RIGHT NOW!

They say THE SIGN that Christ has definitely come is the Roman army destroying Jerusalem and Israel’s temple. THE SIGN matters more to them than anything! They’ll say that the alive saints didn’t experience anything at the “Parousia and second coming of Christ in AD 70” – but they will tell you that the second coming, appearing, arrival, and presence of Christ definitely happened anyway – WITHOUT the alive saints experiencing anything and just moving on with their lives on Earth after “the second coming”.

This is all mental ascension and transcendence stuff. They want to convince people that WE ARE RIGHT NOW in “the Age of Perfection, Immortality, Incorruption, and Glory” – the “New Heaven and Earth” – and the “New Covenantal Age, World, Order, Creation” – that is, IF you can “tap into” what they say “came in AD 70” for those who can SEE IT AND BELIEVE IT! They say that you can receive it NOW while you’re here – without thinking and believing that you must put on immortality, incorruption, perfection, and glory at some other time in the future! Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism is 100% a cult out from Max King! And Gary DeMar is now rubbing elbows and hobnobbing with these cult members on a regular basis!
