When I look at Hebrews 9:28, I very clearly see that this “appearing the second time” is THE second coming of the man who is God who is Jesus, where this second coming of Jesus is not about addressing sin (without sin, apart from sin, not having anything to do with sin), like his first coming (once offered) actually addressed sin on the cross.
Hebrews 9:28, “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.”
I think that Christendom over the past 2000 years generally got the whole idea that Jesus as a literal man actually “appears the second time” in an eschatological end times way correct.
I don’t believe in any super weird, mystical, and hyper-spiritualized “covenantal coming” and “covenantal presence” of Jesus Christ in the first century, like we see in the Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism cult.
I’m guessing that people know what Christology is??
It’s the study of the work, the nature, and the person of Jesus Christ.
See… It’s kind of a really big deal to talk about the work, the nature, and the person of Jesus Christ, especially at it pertains to Jesus’ second coming!
I’m not okay with saying that the second coming of Jesus was a hyper-spiritualized and metaphoric arrival, return, and presence of Jesus in the first century.
I get that the Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism cult guys are okay with this.
I’m not.
To say that “Jesus Christ came back the second time in the first century” means you absolutely must be able to discuss the NATURE, the FORM, and the PERSON of this Jesus Christ who arrived and brought his presence (parousia) at that time.
Jesus’ presence came and arrived in what way?!
This is obviously a super important question to ask when discussing the coming of Jesus the second time!
This gets to the heart of Christology – which is the study of the work, the nature, and the person of Jesus Christ!
It’s not acceptable to make this coming and presence be mystical, metaphoric, and hyper-spiritualized, like we see in the Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism cult, which includes “Covenant Creation” and “Israel Only”.
Imagine this parody discussion between two guys in the fist century at the time the Roman soldiers were slaughtering people in Jerusalem and getting ready to destroy the Jewish temple, and yes, this shows the absurdity, insanity, and heresy of the Covenant Eschatology Full Preterism cult framework they use, and that they stuff everything into…
“Hey! Look at those Roman soldiers slaughtering our family in Jerusalem!”
“Oh. Yeah. That’s just Jesus appearing and arriving in his second coming.”
“I thought we were going to be changed in a twinkling of an eye??”
“Oh. Yeah. That’s a metaphoric covenantal change, covenantal glorification, and covenantal moral perfection.”
“Uuuuuuum, is that how we’re going to start defining harpazo as being caught up in the air and apantesis as meeting Jesus face to face now??”
“Yeah. It’s a metaphoric being caught up and a metaphoric meeting Jesus in the spiritual air in order to escort his covenantal spiritual presence back down to Earth.”
“And you’re saying this is how we’re going to define the eschatological parousia as the presence of Jesus??”
“Well, of course. It’s all myth, metaphor, allegory, symbolism, hyperbole, poetry, hyper-spiritualized, and mystical. I mean, read the Old Testament man. That’s what we use to decipher everything going on with Paul’s teachings. Duh. You make it seem like we’ve got to look at Paul’s teachings like he brought us something new to learn concerning the eschatological parousia as the end times presence of Christ. I mean, if God came in the clouds of judgment in the Old Testament, then Jesus is coming right now in his second coming in the form of the Roman soldiers destroying Jerusalem. End of story. Hebraic mindset ya know! And you better get it quick! Do you really expect the literal man Jesus Christ to come back, arrive, and return with his literal presence and parousia? Oh boy! You need the Hebraic mindset man! Then you’ll be able to see that it’s all just myth, metaphor, allegory, symbolism, hyperbole, poetry, hyper-spiritualized, and mystical. Pffft! You actually think that Jesus as a literal man is showing up in these end times of the old covenantal age and world in AD 70?! You just don’t understand covenantal status change, covenantal moral perfection, covenantal glorification, covenantal immortality, and covenantal incorruption. Once the mystical and metaphoric second coming of Jesus is finished when our Jewish temple is destroyed, all this covenantal perfection and glorification will be ours, as we remain on the Earth in the soon coming new covenantal age and world. It will be a new age and world of covenantal perfection, glorification, immortality, and incorruption. Trust me. You’ll really feel and experience this covenantal status change, perfection, and glorification when it soon comes when our temple is soon destroyed. You better start seeing with the Old Testament Hebraic mindset fast, or you’re going to miss the covenantal status change when the presence of Christ comes and we metaphorically meet Christ in the air and metaphorically escort his covenantal presence back down to Earth. Whatever you do, don’t treat Paul’s teachings like he’s teaching new stuff we’ve never heard of before. You’ve gotta stuff all of Paul’s teachings into the Hebraic mindset covenantal change hermeneutic and framework I’m trying to tell you about. Jesus doesn’t literal come back, return, and arrive silly! It’s all just myth, metaphor, allegory, symbolism, hyperbole, poetry, hyper-spiritualized, and mystical. I can’t believe that you’re taking the coming of Jesus the second time as a literal coming of the man Jesus! Wow! I mean, who would do that?! Get the Hebraic mindset man! Then you’ll know that Jesus’ coming and presence is in the Roman soldiers and by other means besides a literal second coming of Jesus. Uh oh! Brace yourself! The soldiers started ripping the temple down! I think we’re close to experiencing our covenantal status change and covenantal perfection, glorification, immortality, and incorruption! Something tells me I’m going to feel like dancing in the streets and jumping for joy!”
